Thilk is psyched that the new Rush album is reportedly hitting the streets on May 1. Chris, why must you wander that way? I once got into a discussion with this guy Joe in high school about how I thought they were frustratingly annoying and so overrated. He sat there telling me about how many times per song they could change time, blah blah blah. I swear I should have done the “I’m not listening, I’m not listening, I’m not listening” thing, because that would have saved me from hearing him just rave and rave about this group that makes me want to slice off my ears and tear out the working parts in my head.

It takes a superior intellect - the sort of which I obviously posses - to appreciate Rush.

Actually, I just chalk music taste up to what works for each person’s brain. It’s sort of like someone looking at modern art and dismissing it as simplistic. Certain music just makes sense to certain brains, like going with the grain on a piece of wood. Other music just goes the wrong way and is irritating to the listener. It’s not a matter of “taste” something everyone says they have but which no one can truly define, just a matter of what makes sense to an individual.

That being said, you diss Neil Peart again and I’ll kneecap you.

I think it takes very bad hearing to appreciate Rush because that’s the only way you can deal with Geddy Lee’s squealing voice.
