I miss street vendors
This post from Jason Kottke makes me realize how much I miss working in NYC. It’s so true what he mentions about the woman on line in front of him, getting her order without saying a word. I used to get a Snapple iced tea and a croissant from the same vendor on Wall Street near the NYSE every single day (sans vacation, natch), and never had to ask for it. Same price every day, and it was that easy. I don’t have that opportunity working in Jersey (at least not where I am in East Rutherford), and definitely miss those days. I think it’s sad that I spent so much less money on meals and such working in the financial district of New York City than I have anywhere in the “suburbs” throughout NJ. Oh well.

I get my coffee from a cart. She waits until I get to a certain point so she knows I’m coming towards her and then gets my coffee ready, remembering from just a few days after I started going how I liked it. You never realize how much you appreciate those things until they’re gone.
