Pete Lacis is an SEO master

I’d just like to take the time to point out this article from FOX Business about my former colleague and current Colorado-living pal Pete Lacis and his latest biz conquest in the search engine optimization space. My reasons for posting this are twofold – one, because it’s pretty cool when someone you know gets a great hit like this (where’s my shoutout, dammit?! Just kidding.), and two, because I made an SEO-related bet with someone about this blog post.

Let’s see how this works out. Oh, and congrats, Pete! You had to expect some good natured ribbing after an article like that, right?

Just bought this

Okay, for those of you who don’t think people buy things from newsletters and other online locations, feast your eyes on this awesome hat – it’s the old school Oakland A’s logo on a silver and black, a la the Oakland Raiders, hat.

Found via this morning’s Thrillist SF – and there’s only 30, and I just bought 1, so you’ve got maybe 29 left to buy from…

Get your drive on

There’ll be more on this topic soon, but here’s a preview of some shots taken on Saturday with the Vulcan Motor Club. I’m working on a feature for Groomify, and this was step one in the process.

Thanks to Jon Selikoff for shooting photos all morning. Check out the whole set, unedited, here.

ABC’s report on Clear

ABC News ran a report on Clear, with a few people who apparently weren’t so happy about how the system works. Unfortunately, airport security is a disaster, and if those of us who travel ridiculously often want to spend an extra $100 a year to go to the head of the line and, at least theoretically, be less of a “risk” to go through security at that pace, I’m not sure why that’s so ridiculous. For one thing, you STILL go through the same metal detector, take off your belt, shoes, and other metal objects, and have to show a picture ID.

Check it out here:

When the report says that for some, “time is money,” I couldn’t agree more. If this were $5,000 a year I could see people saying it was outlandish, but it’s $100. As someone who took 50 flights last year, I’m going to say that for the few times that I was able to use Clear at U.S. airports, it was so worth it it’s not even funny. Just like the President’s Club for Continental (or your reasonable equivalent) pays itself off in spades the first time you sit in the airport for a six-hour delay, this thing does exactly the same thing. Additionally, me “cutting” the line doesn’t slow you down at all – I’d say everyone I’ve ever seen on the Clear line goes through security in a breeze, and ALWAYS is prepared by the time they get to the front of the line. An analyst talking about how this was “less secure” is ridiculous, IMHO, as I’m given the same level of screening, along with my bags, that every other person is – I just get to go through the line quicker. At the end of the day, it’s NO DIFFERENT from “elite” lines that airlines, at just about every single airport, offer to their own frequent flyers – just with a different volume of people waiting.

Blame Josh if you want to. He started it, at least where I’m coming from.

If you thought that the whole graphjam thing was messed up before, clearly you haven’t seen anything yet.

Mac software of interest

Just thought I’d point out this software that I’ve just found out about this evening, iStat menus. It allows you to do a great job of monitoring your Mac system from the menubar at the top of your screen. Pretty awesome, if I don’t say so myself.

Vote for Riff!

So, Riff the cat has made the Purina Pet Charts for June 3, 2008 – go on over there and vote for him! He’s the #7 pet (as of right now) that day, so you might have to scroll a little bit to the right, but he’s there. He’s the black cat staring at the camera next to a big green plant, with the title “This is my plant.”

We had taken this shot when he decided that getting his relaxation on when some space was opened up on the metal shelves this past weekend. So I guess being a slacker does pay, sometimes, huh?

Plurking it up is what we do

Apparently, we’re supposed to Plurk it up while Twitter takes a bit of a digger.
