These are links. You should click them. Here are some reasons why.

  • In this week’s edition of “What Exactly Is Gawker’s “beat” These Days” news, I point to their recap of last night’s “Mad Men” and turn my head like an RCA dog.
  • How fast is Usain Bolt, really? Some ESPN staffers found out.
  • In case you missed this one, check out some fun that the New Yorker had with a recent NYT review of The Beatles: Rock Band.
  • Could the “Tribute in Light” that graces lower Manhattan every year around September go dark in 2010?
  • Gruber points to William Safire’s favorite New Yorker cartoon.
  • If you were a digital Robin Hood, apparently you’d start at Facebook and head back to MySpace with whatever you’ve got. Or something like that. Or maybe you’d just sit on MySpace all day and post updates to Twitter.
  • The amusing thing about this computer tumor is that it’s probably totally representative of the RAM bloat that your applications are chomping on, and will give you a good idea when you need to reboot.
  • Trash your coach on Twitter, no Twitter for you, says Texas Tech coach Mike Leach.
  • No coverage, no problem, say the Los Angeles Kings.
  • OMG “Star Wars” bathrobes! [via Gizmodo]
  • Dabitch seems to feel the same way that I do about the latest Windows 7 commercial.

Wow, eight years since September 11th. I’ve gotta say, it definitely feels a bit different this year, and I’m not sure why. I can’t tell if it’s got something to do with what I’m doing at work, or that a lot of things are “business as usual” this year (though I presume last year felt similar), or what, but maybe it’s just the time. I’d be remiss for not linking to my recap of that day, which I’d shared with my pals at Baristanet five years ago.

In any case, be well, think about your friends and family and those you may have known who were lost that day.

Here’s the latest stuff that I’m hoping you’ll find of interest — I did.

  • Seriously? Asking that 9/11 become a “national day of service” is being done to “desecrate” it by the Obama administration? Right. [via Dave Holmes on Twitter]
  • Jeremy and Todd have some nice things to say about Jeremiah Owyang joining Altimeter Group. Congrats, Jeremiah!
  • I’m a big fan of TNT’s “Leverage” show, and was psyched to see Wil Wheaton in last night’s episode. Check out some of what Wil had to say about the experience, including some photos from the set.
  • I’m 100% linking to this because I like the title. Well I like the content, too, but the title is key. Rae Hoffman at Outspoken Media says “2003 Called; They’d like their URL structure back” – guffaw.
  • Some of you know that I’d been using Weight Watchers online to lose some weight since last year, and it’s worked pretty well, though definitely slowed down once the program “tweaked” earlier this year. In any case, I’m still using that, or at least the “strategy” behind the foods I eat, but I think I might be a convert to The Line Diet. [via Kottke]

9/11+7

Wow, it seems like just yesterday that I published this post from a year ago, mentioning that it’d been six years since 9/11/2001. Already, we’re at seven years out from that fateful day that a lot of us were a part of, either “live and in person” or through our friends and loved ones. A lot of my friends and colleagues have asked me to give them a rundown of what it was like that day for me, given that I was working in the financial district at the time, and i’ll point to the recap that I’d passed along to my pals at Baristanet way back in 2004.

Still can’t believe it’s been seven whole years since that all happened – right about now on that day I think I was heading back to the South Street Seaport ferry station, where we left for the Highlands just as WTC #7 came down, smoke and debris reaching us on the East River, amazingly.
