LYNTC: 5/7/10

Here’s the batch ‘o’ links I’m suggesting you click for Friday, May 7, 2010.

  • Thank goodness. Peter Shankman and the fine folks at HARO are tweaking their “anonymous” policy for the multiple-times-daily media & source email, to cut down on the overuse of “anonymous” that was being used by media looking to find sources for stories. I’d been seeing more and more (and more) use of “anonymous” in recent months, and am glad to see that it wasn’t just me who found that a little tricky. For those of you not familiar with HARO, find out more here.
  • You guys might think I’m a little bit iPad happy or something, but I’m not the only one who is looking at the device as a real game-changer. [via many]
  • It can’t be coincidence that the same day this spoof post, “If Super Mario Bros. Was Made in 2010,” was published that Blizzard Entertainment announced it would be connecting its games to Facebook, right?
  • Joy shares one of the really bad PR fumbles that those of us in the industry see on an almost daily basis. So sad. Stop using canned lists and actually read something, people.
  • For those of you going to see “Iron Man 2″ tonight / this weekend / as soon as you can possibly leave the office, you might dig on Chris Thilk’s writeup of the marketing behind the film. It’s pretty stocked up. Oh, and the movie was really good. Not that I went out at midnight last night or anything.

Here’s today’s links you need to click.

  • Via Len Kendall, I give you “Galactic Empire State of Mind,” from College Humor, of course.
  • The rumors are true. Ricky Martin is gay. I don’t know how this stayed quiet for so long. /sarcasm. But like Andrew Hampp says, An entire generation of Justin Bieber fans asks, “Ricky who?”
  • For all of you “24″ fans, you’ll appreciate BuddyTV’s list of Jack Bauer’s Top 5 Human Rights Violations.
  • Check out this great piece from “Nightline” on MTV and the changes the network has made / is making to get to where it is today. (yes, I’m biased)
  • Wanna advertise during the series finale of ABC’s “Lost” later this spring? It’ll cost you $900,000. [via wired]
  • Over at Technologizer, Harry McCracken gives a look back at (gasp!) Microsoft Bob, launched fifteen years ago this week.
  • Aaaaand, last but not least, play Jason. You know you want to. [via Jenn]

LYNTC: 12/30/09

It’s almost 2010 (wow!), and here’s my links you need to click for the day. Enjoy!

  • Congrats to Ben and Abbi Wagner on the news of Abbi’s pregnancy. Of course, Ben writes it up in his news-guy style, keeping you waiting until the end, even if you did look at the photo first.
  • After Dave busted on me for my top 25-played tracks that were born in the year of our lord 2009, I just had to link to this. Rex points to what last.fm sez are the most unwanted scrobbles – that is, the ones most deleted from last.fm users’ scrobble lists – for 2009. Let’s just say you’re probably not going to be surprised.
  • For those of you that aren’t so into the cult of the blog, this post from Wil Wheaton is a perfect example of why it’s awesome that they exist in the first place. Just replace Mr. Wheaton (or don’t, if TNG does it for you) with a musician, actor, politician of your choice, and imagine that they were side-commenting their own career or history, and you’ll see what I mean.
  • A couple of weeks back, Twitter released a list of the Top Twitter Trends of 2009. Those of you who get annoyed at my non-100% support of hashtags for all things on Twitter will note that beyond the hashtag-specific category, only 7 made the charts, overall, with real-text taking the cake for the most part. Again, this isn’t to say that they don’t work, only that the “average” user tends to stick to talking in actual words. Just sayin’.
  • Check out Brand New’s Best and Worst Identities for 2009 here.
  • Did you know that you could use multiple aliases for a given email address on your iPhone? But yes, you can. Here’s the solution for this very request, via Gruber.

LYNTC: 12/24/09

Here’s today’s batch of links you need to click, including some I’ve sat on for a little bit.

  • Over at bats:both, I shared some thoughts on the passing of sportscaster George Michael.
  • Time Out New York published some link bait for the entire universe by publishing their list of top movies of the decade. I’ll save the wrath of pen (or keyboard) for some of my blogger colleagues, but there’s some brutal choices on there. The “Donnie Darko” fan club will not be happy.
  • If they had Facebook in the “Star Wars” universe, it might look something like this.
  • I must admit, I spent a ton of time looking over these pager messages from 9/11/01. [via reddit]

LYNTC: 10/20/09

In today’s links, we’ve got food groups, new music, pizza box improvements, new Apple products, and what your email address and credit score together say about you.

  • There’s a new Young Jeezy track. Go listen.
  • There’s a new Rihanna single out. Buzzworthy compares it to “mid-period Massive Attack.” Go listen.
  • Could it be that someone has, in 2009, created the next great pizza box?
  • Apple releases new Magic Mouse. Coincidentally, $69 leaves the pockets of thousands and thousands of Americans.
  • The Milwaukee Brewers have named Rick Peterson their new pitching coach. In related news, the New York Mets still suck and wonder what happened to their pitching staff. Willie Randolph just laughs.
  • Delaware is getting a state park! In other news, it still only takes 15 minutes to drive through the state on I-95 if you have EZPass.
  • Your tax dollars at work. Kids need to eat more vegetables and take in less calories. Hey, does this mean that ketchup will finally become a vegetable?
  • This comparison of credit scores and their respective owners’ email address domains is more than amusing, and proves that there is indeed a statistic for everything.

Here’s today’s short list of links that are of interest. I’ve got more links, but a lack of time to share. More later this week.

  • For the ad lovers out there, check out today’s Q&A w/ Stuart Elliott in the NYT.
  • The Yanks are out playing the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, California, USA, North America today, but you can still go to Yankee Stadium, if you were so inclined, to watch the game. I remember doing this during the New York Rangers’ 1994 run to the Stanley Cup, while the team was out in Vancouver. Kind of fun, but it wasn’t like 42 degrees in Madison Square Garden.
  • Andy Beal writes about the news that social networking via mobiles has doubled in the last six months. Wow. [via Chris Thilk]
  • Dave shared a solid Friday Heh this past week, with the payoff of a Facebook conversation having its way with the “Fresh Prince” theme song and balloon boy.
  • Ben Wagner shares some personal perspective and a great way of spelling out what the film adaptation of “Where The Wild Things Are” means to a lot of people.
  • This is awesome. That is all.
  • Broadband is a privilege, not a right, right? Wrong, if you’re in Finland.

  • On Monday, Derek Powazek said a thing or two about SEO and the people who provide it as a service, professionally and otherwise. On Tuesday afternoon, Danny Sullivan responded with an open letter to Powazek. Since then, Powazek’s published a FAQ on the subject, and Sullivan has responded in kind, and not without a little snark (make sure you read the title). If you’re into search and Web design, etc., this is probably worth your time to check out.
  • Polaroid’s back! Well, sort of.
  • For those of you interested in cool stories about sports and sports leagues, with a tinge of economics and “what if,” then check out Costa’s recap what ALMOST happened in the NHL almost three decades ago. He’s got more here.
  • You tell ‘em, Wil!
  • If you haven’t seen the super awesome video floating around social media circles (and beyond), “The Social Media Guru,” I suggest you go watch it.
  • Apple has something to say about the reporter $10,000 fee it supposedly cost to create iTunes LPs. [via Engadget]
  • Wood IS BACK! Am I the only one sensing a trend in this list?
  • I got a 4 out of 10 in this quiz about inventing things we currently take for granted in our day and age. What did you get? [via Kottke]

LYNTC: 9/29/09

In today’s links, we’ve got iPhone apps galore, some food news, some music, and Twitter news (shocker!).

  • Check it, Zipcar fans. Remember the Zipcar app you might have heard about from a bit back? Well, it’s out [iTunes link]. Gizmodo has more.
  • Kottke’s got more on making your own BLTs. From scratch.
  • Mashable’s got a rumor about the supposedly-coming-soon tablet from Apple – that it’s essentially an iPhone with a bigger screen. Or something like that.
  • A fantastic guest post from Matt Douglas on CenterNetworks about getting your startup going – though probably not the type of post you’re expecting.
  • Joy points to a new spin on Phoenix’s “Rome” if you’re into that sort of thing.
  • Paramore’s “brand new eyes” is out, and it’s only $3.99 at Amazon right now. And it’s good.
  • Okay, I’ll bite, with a caveat. 100 people you’re suggested to follow on Twitter if you’re into the PR thing, from Conversation Agent.
  • For those of you in the Weight Watchers tribe, there’s an iPhone app if you’re in that subsegment of our population. More here. It’s pretty darn good.
  • The Dolphins have just acquired Tyler Thigpen from the Chiefs. At least one of those two teams is looking to not go down in flames, I guess.
  • Rex informs that if you’re into Karen O or “Where The Wild Things Are” that the soundtrack is now streaming on Imeem.
  • If you haven’t already heard about this disgusting Facebook poll asking whether the president should be killed, you’re probably better off for it. Hope you didn’t vote in it, as the Secret Service is looking into anyone who might have.
  • Yesterday it was Texas Tech banning Twitter for football players, today it’s news that NY Jets’ WR David Clowney was benched for comments about playing time on Twitter. Nice.
