Mac software of interest

Just thought I’d point out this software that I’ve just found out about this evening, iStat menus. It allows you to do a great job of monitoring your Mac system from the menubar at the top of your screen. Pretty awesome, if I don’t say so myself.

Sol, a useful widget

Most widgets bore me. Sol is actually useful.

Another Apple convert

So, a colleague walks in this morning and says “we bought an iMac for the kids that we’ll be giving them for Christimas this year. I plug it in, turn it on, and within three minutes it’s booted and on my wireless network. I’m already set up for any parental controls I need, the software is all loaded, and we’re good to go. I need to get one for myself the next time I buy a computer.”

Now, let’s return to your previously scheduled programming.

Trojans for Macs

This article at Wired talks about the latest and greatest attempt to screw with computer users – the mp3-based Trojan.

I don’t need to say much more than Brian Davis from Intego does when quoted in the article – “This is the first native Mac OS virus we’ve found.”

Well, I’m guessing it won’t be the last.

BitTorrent for Macs

Adam Curry posts about the new client for Mac users that lets them use BitTorrent. Good deal.

wow – didn’t even get around to posting yesterday – what was I thinking?!? long night at the olympics last night, with the canadians seemingly getting screwed out of the gold medal in pairs figure skating. who would’ve thunk it – figure skating controversy…. that never happens. oh well. all that matters is that the usa apparently owns snowboarding – maybe we’ll get a gold medal in something other than it, perhaps? who knows. so i actually got the car from hell back last night – they managed to put a bad alternator in it a while back to replace the bad alternator that it already had. hmmm. hopefully, they pulled out a “good” alternator for this time around…

so – good topic i like from the topics blog, “Macs or PCs? Netscape or IE? Pepsi or Coke? WHY?”…. i’m definitely a pc person, though i just haven’t had that much experience with macs – i’d love to have one at some point, though they canned the “cube” model, so i dunno if it’ll happen anytime soon… i prefer internet explorer to netscape, just because it seems to flow a little better. netscape just seems jumbled a lot to me, and it seems to crash out a lot. (hmmm, powers at work here?) i always used netscape in college, but now it’s just not as flowy… definitely coke. i think pepsi tastes too much like candy, and coke has more bubble type stuff going on… though i sometimes prefer wild cherry pepsi to cherry coke… not sure what i’m thinking – probably because i’m after the “sugar” taste at that point. how about you?
